How to Trade Gold (XAUUSD) in Uganda
A practical starting guide for Ugandan traders: brokers, deposits, the best hours to trade gold in East Africa Time, and the risk rules that keep you in the market.
1. Understand what XAUUSD is
XAUUSD is the price of one ounce of gold in US dollars. When you buy XAUUSD you profit if gold rises; when you sell you profit if it falls. Because it is traded with leverage, both gains and losses are magnified.
2. Choose a regulated broker
Pick an international broker with a strong regulator, tight gold spreads, MT4/MT5 and convenient local deposits. Check the broker's licence on the regulator's website before depositing. Avoid anyone asking you to send money to a personal number to "trade for you".
3. Fund your account
Many brokers used by Ugandan traders accept MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money, bank cards, bank transfer or crypto. Start with an amount you can afford to lose completely while you learn.
4. Trade the right hours (East Africa Time)
- London session: roughly 10:00–19:00 EAT — gold often starts its main daily move.
- New York session: roughly 15:00–24:00 EAT — the London/New York overlap (about 15:00–19:00 EAT) is usually the most active window.
- US news days: NFP, CPI and FOMC releases (usually 15:30 or 21:00 EAT) cause sharp spikes — reduce size or stay out.
Exact times shift by an hour when the UK and US change their clocks.
5. Size your lots correctly
One standard lot of gold is 100 oz, so $1 of movement = $100 per lot; 0.01 lot = $1 per $1 move. With a $300 account risking 1% ($3) and a $3 stop, the correct size is 0.01 lot. Use our lot size calculator before every trade.
6. Follow simple risk rules
- Always use a stop loss.
- Risk no more than 1–2% per trade.
- Stop trading for the day after two losses.
- Keep a trading journal.

7. Learn, follow signals, or get managed
If you're still learning, XAUUSD signals with clear entry, stop loss and targets help you see how setups are traded. If you would rather not trade yourself, account management lets an experienced trader manage your account while funds stay in your name.
